Video Server Logger Messages Release 2.1.7 A44116_2 |
|
This chapter gives you general information and helpful tips about messages. It covers these topics:
The Oracle Video Server logger messages are generated by various components of the Oracle Video Server system and are written to the log file by the Oracle Media Net logger process, mnlogsrv. For more information about mnlogsrv, see the Oracle Video Server Administrator's Guide for your platform.
The logger messages themselves are stored in the file $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/mesg/mzlm.dat. This document is created from mzlm.dat. However, mzlm.dat contains many informational messages in addition to error or warning messages. Most of these informational messages do not have Cause or Action statements and are not listed in this document, because there is no additional information.
When you start mnlogsrv, you specify the destination of the logger messages. Usually this is a file, but if a file is not specified, logger messages are sent to the console.
To view logger messages as they are written to a file, use the command:
The filename is the name of the log file.
To help you find and fix errors, Oracle embeds object names, numbers, and character strings in some messages. These embedded variables are represented by num, str, hex, and so on.
For example, the message:
5317 invalid stripe size of num specified for volume `str'
might actually appear as:
5317 invalid stripe size of 12 specified for volume `trailer2'
These abbreviations may appear in the Messages, Cause, or Action lines.
BLOB - Binary large object
DSM - Down-stream manager
MDS - Media Data Store
OCS - Connection service
PTS - Position time stamp (from tagger)
RPC - Remote procedure call
STB - Set-top box
WWS - Oracle World-Wide Support
The Oracle Video Server logger messages are grouped into specific ranges indicating the component that generated the message. The message ranges are:
1-9: Oracle Video Server logger internal messages
200-399: Connection service messages
400-499: BLOB wrap utility messages
500-699: Video pump messages
700-1099: Upstream component messages
1600-1799: Media Server Manager messages
2000-3999: Stream service messages
4000-4199: Boot Image server messages
4200-4399: File server messages
5300-5450: Media Data Store messages
6000-6999: Authorization server messages
Some of the Oracle Video Server logger messages are specific to the broadband (interactive TV) environment; others are specific to the LAN environment.
