Troubleshooting Information

For information on typical problems and solutions concerning the Oracle Video Server and Oracle Video Client, point your web browser to the URL file://d:/ovsdoc/ovspr/inde.html, located on the Oracle Video Client CD.

The Online Documentation

To make the Oracle Video Server documentation more easily accessible, it is available online. There are two forms of online documentation:

The only documents not available online are the Release Notes and the Quick Reference; these documents are available only in printed form. The Oracle Video Server Utilities Guide and the Oracle Video Server Logger Messages are only available in online form.

The online documentation is installed in the Oracle Video Server in the file $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc/ovsdoc.tar. You must use these commands to install these files into $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc:

cd $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc
tar -xvf ovsdoc.tar

This creates two additional directories: $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc/html and $ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc/pdf and installs the documentation files in those directories.

The online documentation is also available directly from the distribution CD-ROM at /ovsdoc/html and /ovsdoc/pdf.

HTML Viewer

To view the HTML documentation, we recommend you use a browser that supports HTML 2.0 with tables.

Viewing on the Oracle Video Client

When you view the HTML files on an Oracle Video Client Windows machine, you can only read the documentation files from the CD-ROM. These files are in the directory D:\OVSDOC\HTML (if your CD-ROM is drive D:). To read the documentation using an HTML browser, start at the URL:

file:///D:\OVSDOC\HTML\ROADMAP\ROADMAP.HTM

Viewing on the Oracle Video Server

To run a browser on your Oracle Video Server computer, you must first install a browser. You can obtain a web browser from a number of FTP sites.

You can view the documentation that is stored on your server from a browser running on that server. To do this start at the URL:

file:///$ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc/html/roadmap.html

If your browser is unable to expand $ORACLE_HOME, you'll have to do it yourself.

If you need, you can set up an HTTP server and make the documents available to other readers on your internal web.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

You can install the Adobe Acrobat reader on both the Oracle Video Server UNIX computer and on the Oracle Video Client Windows computer.

The installation files for the Adobe Acrobat reader are in the /ovsdoc directory of both the Oracle Video Server CD-ROM and the Oracle Video Client CD-ROM.

To install the Acrobat reader on a Solaris machine:

  1. Mount the Oracle Video Server distribution CD-ROM
  2. Change directory to /cdrom/ovsdoc/acroread.
  3. Use the install script to install the Acrobat reader.

To install the Acrobat reader on an HP-UX machine (from tape):

  1. Copy the contents of the Oracle Video Server distribution tape to a staging area (named /stage).
  2. Change directory to /stage/ovsdoc/acroread.
  3. Use the install script to install the Acrobat reader.

To install the Acrobat reader on a Windows machine:

  1. Mount the Oracle Video Client distribution CD-ROM.
  2. Change directory to D:\OVSDOC\ACROREAD.
  3. Read the README.TXT file.
  4. Change directory to DISK1.
  5. Run SETUP.EXE to install the Acrobat reader.

Viewing on the Oracle Video Client

When you use Adobe Acrobat on an Oracle Video Client Windows machine, you can only read the documentation files from the CD-ROM. These files are in the directory D:\OVSDOC\PDF (if your CD-ROM is drive D:). To read the documentation using Adobe Acrobat, start with the file:

file:///D:\OVSDOC\PDF\ROADMAP.PDF

Viewing on the Oracle Video Server

To read the Adobe Acrobat documentation that is stored on your server, start with the file:

file:///$ORACLE_HOME/vs21/doc/pdf/roadmap.pdf
