Preface

This guide describes how to use Oracle8 Server Image Cartridge.

Image Cartridge is dependent on features supplied with Oracle8 Server. The major Oracle8 dependent features are support for object data types and methods, large objects, and PL/SQL external procedures with callbacks.

Intended Audience

This guide is intended for anyone who wants to store, retrieve, and manipulate image data in an Oracle database, including developers of image specialization cartridges.

Structure

This guide contains three chapters and three appendixes:

Chapter 1  

Introduces image and data cartridge concepts and provides an overview of the Image Cartridge functions.  

Chapter 2  

Provides examples of using the Image Cartridge types and methods.  

Chapter 3  

Describes the procedures you can use to manipulate image data.  

Appendix A  

Describes the supported image data formats.  

Appendix B  

Describes how to install Image Cartridge.  

Appendix C  

Lists potential errors, their causes, and user actions to correct them.

Conventions

In this guide, Oracle8 Server Image Cartridge is sometimes referred to as Image Cartridge, or simply, the cartridge. Oracle Corporation's Network Computing Architecture is referred to as, the architecture.
